When we built our house, we turned down the fireplace option. Plenty of people told us they weren't efficient (real log or fake log) so we just didn't get one.
However, if you're a Comcast cable person, you may enjoy the sight (and sound) ½ŵof a crackling fireplace simply by saying the word "fireplace" into your voice remote. You get this nonstop loop of a fireplace, and you don't have to sweep out the ashes in the yawning...
You can also say "beach," "aquarium," "sunrise" or "sunset" any time you want something more attractive than Mike Lindell's used pillowcase on your screen. It turns your TV into an essential part of room decor, if you ask me.
