Long Live Rock

Tonight's scheduled topic? Best Names. More on that in just a moment, but first, it struck me tonight, while I was watching Monday Night Football, that they used a section of The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" as bumper music - the snippet they use leading to a commercial. That's a 37-year-old song, from the 1971 album "Who's Next."

Double back to 1971. Here is proof that that crazy rock and roll music, which was once all set to drag us all to the gates of Hades, is the musical
lingua franca of the age.

Because, in 1971, on Monday Night Football, they didn't use 37-year-old songs to go into advertisements. If they had, we'd all have been whistling "The Continental" or "Flirtation Walk" on Tuesday mornings that fall. And we didn't.

Best name for a football player? James Thrash.

Best name for a rock guitarist? Izzy Stradlin.

Best name to give at a restaurant when waiting for a table with your friends? Donner.

So the host/ess will get to say "Donner...party of six...uh, five....uh...."

Your Best Name suggestions are welcome!
