From the same state where Mayberry is...

Next Tuesday, people across the state of North Carolina will be able to vote on something called "Amendment 1," a constitutional amendment that would define marriage as between one man and one woman and bar civil unions and recognized domestic partnerships.

Chances are, the amendment will pass, and then same-sex couples across NC will be SOL.  You could have two men or two women who have families, live together for decades, and they won't be able to have insurance coverage for their partners or even sign important documents at a time of medical crisis, just because their genitalia happen to match.  Meanwhile, a man can marry 17 different women, or vice-versa, and that's just peachy in the Tarheel State.

I read about this because I found this online.  A preacher in NC, one Sean Harris, said during preachin' on Sunday that it is ok to beat the hell out of your children if they display epicene qualities.  Not that he would use that word, but it means "having characteristics of the opposite sex."  So, if your son seems a little girly, and your girl seems a little Sonny, why, just whomp 'em upside the haid! Beat the gay away.  Here are the words of this sinbuster:

"So your little son starts to act a little girlish when he is four years old and instead of squashing that like a cockroach and saying, “Man up, son, get that dress off you and get outside and dig a ditch, because that is what boys do,” you get out the camera and you start taking pictures of Johnny acting like a female and then you upload it to YouTube and everybody laughs about it and the next thing you know, this dude, this kid is acting out childhood fantasies that should have been squashed.
Can I make it any clearer? Dads, the second you see your son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give him a good punch. Ok? You are not going to act like that. You were made by God to be a male and you are going to be a male. And when your daughter starts acting to (sic) Butch you reign (sic) her in. And you say, “Oh, no, sweetheart. You can play sports. Play them to the glory of God. But sometimes you are going to act like a girl and walk like a girl and talk like a girl and smell like a girl and that means you are going to be beautiful. You are going to be attractive. You are going to dress yourself up.”
You say, “Can I take charge like that as a parent?”
Yeah, you can. You are authorized. I just gave you a special dispensation this morning to do that.
"

Pastor Sean! (left)
Wow.  To think, the pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC, is empowered to give his flock permission to commit the crimes of child abuse and assault with intent to maim.  Good to know!

I'm just speaking for myself here, as opposed to Pastor Harris, but I plan to meet God one day (a long long time from now) and I plan on reporting to God that there are people down here on earth claiming to do His work while actually sowing the seeds of hatred and division.  Of course, He knows that.  I just want Him to know that we know, too.

Thanks for your comments on this Mark, As i grow older, I have more and more problems with organized religion and the people they allow in positions of power. As for my faith, it gets stronger. I always enjoy reading you and picking your brain on certain subjects as well. Thanks for your opinion! Hope you are enjoying your 'free' time.

You're welcome, Splendid! My opinion and my time are both free. I will forever puzzle over people being so mean in the name of God.

I saw this story earlier this week. Im not surprised anymore by what these pastors say. Youre probably right. This amendment will pass. But maybe it will encourage people to get out and vote for people who will represent them. Isn't a gay republican voting for a conservative kinda ass backwards? No pun intended...

I don't see how a person interested in the greater rights of themselves and others can align with the R's...
