110

Victor Dransfield drives his car every day, and lives independently in the New Jersey house he's called home since 1945. He stops for coffee and takeout meals every day. He takes care of everything around the house alone; the only help he needs is, his grandchildren bring him his groceries once a week.

He even scoots up and down the stairs to the main floor, the bedroom upstairs, and the basement laundry room, no problem.

Did I mention he is 110 years old???

He had to have an endoscopy recently for a problem with swallowing. That was only the second time in his life he had anesthesia. His granddaughter, 49, says she has more medical problems than Grandpa has.

Odds are, if you are over 100, you are female. Only 15% of centenarians are male. No one knows why. Make it to 110, as did Victor, and 90% of your group is female.

Victor was the fire chief in his town (he's still a member of the company!) and his advice for those who want to cross the century mark is to spend time doing what you love.

I can check that one off.

His other tip? Drink Ovaltine every day!

I just added that to the shopping list.

"Knowing people and loving people makes me live longer," says Mr. Dransfield.
