The khaki ain't lacking

I really love khaki pants, have worn them all my life, and I feel they are a key component of my wardrobe, along with red socks, Oxford shirts, vest sweaters, and that leather thing that hangs off my belt and snaps onto a key ring and a chain that holds a Swiss Army knife. As a kid, I was hauled down to Sears on North Avenue to get my back-to-school khakis. They had a little decorative khaki belt to protect my precious sacral region.

I don’t know, some people disdain khaki as being bland (guilty) but at least it's mostly cotton. Polyester pants feel like you’re wearing Saran Wrap pants, and pants made from wool are itchy, which is why sheep run around without any pants on.

Plus, I like the sound of a word with two k's. Khaki comes to us from the mid 19th century Urdu word khākī, meaning ‘dust-colored’.

"Khaki"! You can't say it without smiling,  which is why I am proud that it is the official color of next year.

2026 is going to be a great year!
