What would you call 2,358 people playing catch? That's 1,179 pairs of people tossing a baseball back and forth, if it makes the calculation easier.
The answer is: the new Guinness World Record for the largest game of catch, and it took place in a most appropriate place, the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center in New Jersey.
Guinness World Records adjudicator (now, THERE'S a job that would look great on any résumé!) Michael Empric only had to throw a penalty flag, as it were, for but a few violations, too!
"There were some phone violations, and also there was some rolling of the ball," he said. "When we say catch, we want people to play to the best of their ability. That does involve throwing the ball, not rolling it. There weren't a lot of deductions, though. For a group this size, I think eight pairs were deducted, which was minimal."
If he's saying that people were on their phones while they were supposed to be playing catch, I just don't know what to say, except "Phooey!"
