What's Yours?

I abbreviate my breakfast choices. Why not? I'm the tall short order chef here, so if I say "BLT," you know the bacon, lettuce, and tomato are going to work. "B&E" doesn't mean breaking and entering any more; eggs are getting broken and bacon is entering the pan along with them.

In Baltimore, we used to have Esskay Meats. The name stood for SK - Schluderberg-Kurdle Co - former purveyors of hams, hot dogs, sausage, bacon and their delectable chipped beef, which brings me to another breakfast favorite: Creamed Chipped Beef. If you say "CCB" around here, no one will think you're referring to the Community College of Baltimore, but the result of strips of dried beef in a simple white gravy (milk, butter, and flour) served on toast.

Soldiers and sailors have traditionally come home asking for more of the breakfast treat they lovingly refer to by the acronym "SOS," which stands for either "Succulence On Sourdough" or "Same Old Snack," depending on which side of the Mississippi River you call home.
